Urban Air Pollution and Citizen Science: The Case of MI-TRAP

ObservAR Workshop from C2TN – Centre for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies, Instituto Superior Técnico

To celebrate National Air Day on April 12th, the ‘ObservAR’ group from C2TN – Centre for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies, Instituto Superior Técnico—organized the ‘ObservAR Workshop.’ The afternoon was filled with energy and knowledge-sharing, with 30 participants, including students and researchers, engaging in discussions around air quality and sustainability.

During the session, Catarina Gameiro presented the MI-TRAP project, which focuses on improving tools and services for mitigating air pollution from transport sources through a multi-dimensional approach. The project targets critical locations such as airports and ports, aiming to reduce emissions and their impact on both the environment and public health.

Catarina emphasized the value of interdisciplinary collaboration to develop effective, scalable solutions. Her talk sparked engaging discussions among participants about how technological innovation can contribute to cleaner urban air and more sustainable transport systems.

The workshop was an excellent opportunity for participants to expand their knowledge on air quality challenges and to exchange ideas on creating sustainable and healthier environments in transportation hubs.
