Nature-Based Solutions (NBS): Greening Urban Environments

MI-TRAP is committed to exploring Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) as a pivotal approach in urban planning, creating a harmonious coexistence between urban environments and nature.

Harmony Between Nature and Urban Life

In 6 sites across 4 European cities (Athens-Piraeus, Milan, Lisbon, Gladsaxe-Copenhagen), MI-TRAP will demonstrate customized spatial solutions. These sites encompass traffic hot spots, port areas, and regions near airports. The impact of these solutions will undergo rigorous monitoring and assessment, focusing on public health, wellbeing, social, and environmental outcomes.

Innovative NBS Implementations

Among the NBS to be implemented are shaded urban canopies, conditioned corridors, green walls with air pollution and sound absorption capabilities, green parking areas, live vegetation for shaded environments, urban linear parks, green bus stops, air pollution, and noise abatement green pads, and vertical green curtains. These interventions aim to create a balanced, microclimate-controlled urban environment.

Knowledge Dissemination and Toolkit Integration

We are committed to systematically organizing the knowledge collected, offering it through the Metabolism-based NBS Planning and Simulation Toolkit and Module 3 of the MI-TRAP Toolbox. This EU knowledge portfolio will provide integrated solutions and tools for planners, community organizers, and policymakers. It will include case studies, tools, documents, manuals, technology descriptions, training materials, benchmarks, standards, guidelines, and will serve as a platform for participatory processes and stakeholder communication.
