On September 23-24, 2024, Georgia Tseva from the AMARANTHUS team, led by Chrysi Laspidou, presented the MI-TRAP project at the NEXUS Excellentia Programme. Hosted by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and coordinated by Prof. Giannis Adamos, the event brought together young researchers and innovators from across Europe to explore sustainable solutions for the water, energy, and food systems nexus.

Tseva’s presentation shone a spotlight on MI-TRAP’’s air pollution measurement systems soon to be deployed in 10 pilot cities. These innovations offer critical tools for young researchers working to tackle global challenges like climate change and urban air quality.

The vibrant setting of Aristotle University further positioned Thessaloniki as a growing hub for sustainability and innovation. Prof. Adamos emphasized the urgent need for fresh thinking to solve the complex issues affecting our world today. The event saw contributions from other prominent EU projects, including ARSINOE, RETOUCH NEXUS, BIONEXT, Natalie, CHOICE, NEXOGENESIS, and REXUS, all working together to address shared challenges.

Key takeaway? Knowledge exchange and innovation tools are essential in helping cities better understand and respond to air pollution. With the first MI-TRAP results expected soon, this collaborative momentum offers hope for smarter, more sustainable urban solutions.
