16 Feb MI-TRAP at the RTR Conference 2026

From 10 to 12 February 2026 in Brussels, the 9th edition of the RTR Conference brought together the European Research & Innovation community for three days of dynamic discussions, knowledge exchange, and networking.
MI-TRAP contributed to the session “Advanced transport emissions monitoring network”, alongside our sister project, Net4Cities, where partners shared insights on monitoring approaches and urban applications for transport-related air pollution.

MI-TRAP presentation
The MI-TRAP presentation, delivered by Manos Manousakas from NCSR Demokritos, highlighted recent progress in innovative methodologies for monitoring and modelling transport-related air pollution at urban hotspots.
Key advances included:
- real-time measurements
- source apportionment approaches
- integrated modelling tools
Particular attention was given to emerging pollutants such as ultrafine particles and black carbon.



Panel discussion
The subsequent panel discussion emphasised:
- the importance of addressing emerging pollutants
- the need for new monitoring methodologies
- challenges and opportunities for uptake at city and policy level
The session was moderated by Georgios Tzamalis (European Commission DG MOVE), Adrian Velaers (Concawe), and Erika von Schneidemesser from the Research Institute for Sustainability – Helmholtz Centre Potsdam, coordinator of the Net4Cities project.
